1. Delivered carefully and in excellent condition.
2. Plugged it in and it lit right up
3. Has an instant on and warm up mode (saves electricity)
4. Wide range of inputs - my son has a Sony Bravia with one HDMI port. This has four. I have a high definition video DVD player into one HDMI and Verizon FIOS in the other. The TV recognizes the inputs so to address them, click "input" and it flip flops back and forth.
5. Speakers are OK. I have bypassed them using 2 big AMT 5 stereo speakers with Heil air motion transformers, center speaker, sub-woofer and two back speakers. The amplifier (big Sony) takes in the digital audio and sends out true DTS, 5.1 etc. With the TV and sound - t is better than going to the ball game or the movies.
6. My FIOS remote covers all the functions of the TV remote except for menu setups - fairly standard programming codes. I forgot the exact code.
7. I removed a 32" tv (150 lbs) and it took two of us to do it. I put this one in by myself. It has a very thin frame and can fit into many of the entertainment centers. The new 40" Bravia XBRs are just 1" wider.
8. The picture in HD is unbelievable. You can see individual windows in panoramic views of cities - faces on people in stadiums.
9. Price/performance? I prefer this over my son's Bravia. The new XBR (00) may be better than his older one. This was only 00.

i bought this from a seller i found on amazon at christmas time and i dealt with them directly. i got this for 6.00 over two months ago after much research with no tax and free shipping. it showed up at my door 2 days later. i bought this for my bedroom and it's been played a lot! i could'nt be happier with it! the picture is stunning! a clear, crisp and sharp picture! the contrast ratio is only 10,000-1 so it looks better as the day wears on but i'm telling you the picture and clarity is first rate! you only need 720p for a hdtv 32" or smaller so my requirments when deciding on a bedroom tv were: 32", the 0.00 price range, a name brand, the best overall tv possible at the best price and a high energy star rating because i sleep with it on all night. after looking at sony,samsung,toshiba and others i decided on this one. panasonic has been building quality tv's for 50 years and this set proves it and it has the highest energy star rating in it's class. even the sound is good, not as deep and rich sounding as the 46" ,000.00 hd/lcd samsung in my front room but for a 6.00 32" lcd/tv it is fairly good![it's a good stereo sound but with low amplification].........p.s. for your living room hdtv you would want a 25,000-1 contast ratio or more for viewing in all kinds of light. my samsung is 25,000 - 1 and it looks great morning, noon and night in any kind of light!............update 6/21/09...........after 6 months of ownership i couldn't be happier with this unit! has met and exceeded all my expectations. good job panasonic!.........update 2/11/10.........after all this time now with this lcd/tv being played between 10 to 12 hours everyday without ever skipping a beat all i can say is good job panasonic!

Understanding HDTV Picture Resolution

Lets cut to the chase. The reason you bought an HD television or the corporate planning for an HDTV is the quality of images. Therefore, it is called high definition in the first place, my guess is for high-definition images. But do you really understand what a high-definition picture? And what is the difference between a TV that monitors high-definition and a hard disk or a program that sends high-definition images? This article explains some of the jargon andHelp to distinguish between HDTV and normal TV in terms of image quality or resolution.

The resolution of images on a TV is described by the vertical resolution of the TV. The vertical resolution is the number of rows from top to bottom are displayed on the screen. In this regard, if a TV has a vertical resolution of at least 720 lines, then it is classified as an HDTV. Another measure of image resolution is the horizontal resolution. This is the number ofLine from left to right on the screen.

Many televisions, especially plasma and LCD TVs have what you have a fixed pixel displays. I picked this TV up at Best Buy in November 2004, and I've been pretty pleased with it. It's easy to set up and lightweight (approx 70 pounds), and isn't as fragile as it appears.

I'm running a DVI cable from a digital cable box to this TV, and the high-definition picture is spectacular, especially for sports. This TV only offers the 720p HD output, but I've had no difficulties with conversion from the 1080i signal. The analog signal (non-digital channels), unfortunately, is mediocre - and certain stations that have poor signals (think TBS) look terrible. It was explained to me that all DLP televisions have lousy analog pictures because they don't deal well with the 480i output that standard TV uses, but it doesn't matter why - just be aware that it is a problem, and if you want a very good picture across the board, this TV does not deliver it.

I have a pretty high-end Sony DVD player and I'm a little disappointed in the picture from it. I'm using good component cables and used a calibration DVD to improve the picture, but I still see a lot of artifacts and fuzziness on most DVDs. However, I can't totally blame the TV - high-quality DVDs (The Lord of the Rings movies come to mind) do look good. I guess the TV just doesn't do much to improve an average or lousy signal like the 32 inch Sony tube TV I had before it.

The setup is pretty easy to use, and the TV is packed with features (impressive PIP in particular). Menus are easy to navigate. My only criticism is that if you have several devices plugged in, going from one input to another can take a good 10 seconds as the TV's "reaction time" is very slow when you want to go from TV to DVD to X-Box, etc...

Overall, it's a good, not great, TV. I'm happy I bought it - and if you can still find one (they're 3 generations old, having been replaced by the 5063 and now the 5085) at a clearance sale, it might be your best bet.

This is the first (smaller) LCD set I've seen that has a good off-angle view when looking up (first of a new generation of smaller sets with upgraded LCD as found on bigger sets)!
I once got burned by a Toshiba 23HLV87 (off-angle view when looking up was terrible) which I exchanged for a Toshiba 26LV47 (off-angle view is great up/down as well as from the sides). After my experience with the Toshibas, I found that many smaller LCD sets (`bout anything smaller than 26") that look good from the sides (and some looked good from above) have a terrible off-angle view when looking up.
I've wanted to replace my kitchen TV (mounted high) with an LCD, and after a call to Sharp to verify this screen does indeed look good (when looking up), I ordered (the owner manual says the viewing angles are 170 degrees horizontally and VERTICALLY)! This is the first (smaller?) set I've seen with specs that specifically state off-angle viewing angles both horizontally AND vertically, so I assume this is the first generation of smaller sets with an updated LCD screen as found on most 26" and above sets.
I have previous good experience with a well-used Sharp Aquos, so hopefully the quality/performance of this set is just as good.
BTW...if you want to download an owner manual (not listed on Sharp USA site for this model), you can either e-mail Sharp USA customer service and they'll e-mail you one or you can visit Sharp Canada's site. Since Amazon doesn't seem to want to allow me to post an external link, just Google "LC20D42U manual" and the first hit should carry you to a page full of Sharp Canada manuals-they seem to have a much more extensive list of downloadable manuals than Sharp USA.

PROS
First set under 26" I've found that has good off-angle viewing when looking up!
Built-in HDTV tuner: (I have Comcast, and can get about 10 over the air channels through my cable by bypassing the DVR). I have no cable box/DVR in the kitchen, so I should be able to receive channels 1 though 70+ as well as approximately 10 over the air HD channels (based on current experience/HDTVs).
Picture quality: Comparable, if not better, than my Toshiba Regza and old Sharp Aquos.
CONS
No channel labeling!!! (my 26" Toshiba Regza does!) It's much nicer to label each channel rather than remembering what station 105.1 etc is!
Base doesn't swivel (it does tilt)
Sound is a bit on the weak side
Remote not lighted
Remote cannot control other devices!

After living with this TV for a few days, I'm lowering my rating from 4 stars to 3 due to missing features available on my other sets (don't see any way to change the star rating at Amazon)!
If not for size restrictions, I think I'd just get another Toshiba Regza (26LV47, or maybe the model without the built-in DVD player) instead of this Sharp.
The 1 big thing the Toshiba has going for it is channel labeling! It's tough to remember channel 105.1 is ????-would be nice to be able to label each channel with station call letters!

After purchasing a Sharp Aquos 42" LCD last year, and spending quite a bit of time doing research to find that particular set, I found myself wanting a smaller HDTV that I could easily put in my car and take with me when I travel to and from my work location. I wasn't really looking for an LED, just wanting to find something cheap with a decent picture. Then I saw this set from Sharp, and with the price, it seemed too good to pass up. Compared to my 42" Aquos LCD I would say that this one is really nice, but I still feel like my 42" is better. One of the top reasons is the sound quality on this set doesn't seem up to par. I keep my volume at 19 when viewing, but there is a noticeable difference between this one and my other set. If you're going to hook it up to a home theater system, I suppose this wouldn't really matter. Of the 4 HDMI inputs, I have been unable to get HDMI Input #5 to work. It has a ton of features so you can tweak to perfection. The auto-contrast function seemed to make the picture too dark, but once turning it off, the picture is just what I want. I love the remote, the button layout is about as close to perfect for me, very intuitive - the backlighting on the remote could be improved. One function I really like about this set, is that its Menu options are Input specific (i.e. if I am using the HDMI port, it doesn't show Channel/Cable options, just options that relate to the HDMI). The set is very light, easy to move. All in all, I really like this LED TV, and for the low price - I love it. Another great product from Sharp.

HDTV - Should I get a 1080p or 720p HDTV?

How do you find the perfect HDTV, you will be put in dozens of different, explaining the different types of technology, different types of display and different levels of quality. This television is great quality. Sure, it's "only" 720p - but that's fine. For the size of screen I don't any complaints at all. It's got all the inputs I wanted, including a VGA port for my old laptop, and the panel is pretty spacious so even having a few cables plugged in, you can still reach the cables/ports easily. Not having a side panel might make it difficult to plug ne cables in if you have it in a TV cabinet, but the TV isn't heavy and the panel is offset so you won't have to reach far.

It has a few in-built settings that control brightness, saturation and sound. You won't be spoiled for choice, but there are always custom options. The menus are really easy to use and the remote control is uncluttered and quite simple in design. Put it this way - you won't need the user's manual. If by some chance you do - it's fairly hefty and covers the ground well.

The colour is great, everything looks sharp, and the sound is good for built-in speakers. It works very well as a computer monitor (handling the HDMI output well) and looks great on the movies I've watched so far. The automatic picture adjust/resolution detection is great and really makes using a computer with this screen a treat.

As far as viewing angle goes, this is pretty good - there's a slight drop-off in colour intensity as you go past about 60 degrees from head on, but it's still okay at nearly 90 degrees. It's perhaps a little worse as you view from above the screen, but this is unlikely to present a problem for normal viewing and will be no different from other screens in this price bracket.

Some reviewers have mentioned a high-pitched sound when the unit is on standby - I can only congratulate them on having great hearing; yes, it does make a high-pitched noise BUT that's both very high (beyond most adults' hearing) and very quiet. Besides, it's well known that TVs on standby use a great deal of power, so the easy answer is to turn it off at the socket. (By way of comparison, my mobile phone charger also makes a noise when plugged in but not in use - this is about as loud and will take some time of deathly silence to notice it).
